I LOVE...Astier de Villatte in Paris

12 January 2011

Years ago, the fabulous well-traveled Tina Maristela was asked to name some of her favorite stores around the world. She named several like Colette of Paris and K I S H from Manila.

That was years ago when K I S H was still in GB3. It got stuck in my mind to go and visit Colette (yes it’s a pity that back then, I have never been to Colette). Only last year (yes only last year) after more than 6 years and countless visits to Paris that I had the chance to visit Colette. Colette is an iconic store in Paris which Parisians love. Colette is a fashion
store with a little of everything, with CDG, Vivian Westwood and other brands lording the floors.

After visiting Colette I walked back the street of Rue Saint-Honore and guess what I discovered – Astier De Villatte.

From the outside it looks like a very old store, and once you go inside you will start imagining things like you were in Paris during the turn of the century. There is this old world magic that you feel. The store looks run down to me and yet it is charming.

What they sell are beautiful China pieces and all handmade in Paris of black terra cotta with a milky white glaze. They look so delicate but are extremely durable. They also have candles and other home decors.

The space is small and you have to be very careful with every turn.

The prices are a little stiff so if you want to complete a dining set for 6 and if you are under a budget, then maybe a serving platter will be a good start to purchase.

Or you can buy their candles which are available at Homme et femme at Shangri-La Plaza (you read it right).

If you ever stop by Paris, visit Astier De Villatte.
