Kidlat festival moments

26 May 2012

“Kidlat 2012 is the Philippines’ premier creative advertising festival happening from May 9 to 11.

It’s going to be a four-day blur of inspiring talks, rowdy festivities, and an awards show that honors the country’s most creative advertising from the past year.

That’s right, we said blur. It will be a busy week – but the kind that feels like the break you deserve.

This year, Kidlat Awards is all about getting un-uninspired. And because it’s happening on the white powdery sands of Boracay (the second best beach in the world), you’ll be off to a good start."

I was invited as one of the 5 guest speakers expected to blur about getting the delagates un-uninspired. Here are moments to remember.

Doing my talk

“Hi I am Leigh Reyes and I will introduce you as guest speaker on Wednesday”

Meeting Leigh Reyes while in line to check in at the airport that Tuesday morning. Her bangs was cool and she blogs about pens, yes about pens. Then later on I found out she speaks Bahasa Indonesia just like me because she worked in Jakarta for two years, same year I was there. Apa kabar? She was constanly doing brush works on her ipad and her talent for caligraphy is something.

She took up Management Economics and end up running an agency and loving pens.

“Happy to see you here again and listen to your inspiring story. Remember me? We were on the same line waiting for our voters ID in Glorietta I think around 3 years ago”

When I asked him if he enjoyed his years as President & COO of PAC/BBDO (1990-1995), he said he didn’t enjoy it as much because he was a creative guy by heart. Totally got it. I was actually a little sad remembering his reply.

“Carlo, you think you can incorporate me in one of your hulk drawings like a guy the hulk steps on but make sure the poor guy is holding a Gregoria chair”

First time meeting him after I was inspired by his humble beginnings. He drew Electra and series of Incredible Hulk for Marvel comics. He works from home all the way from Tanauan, Batangas

“Maybe you should ask Atom Henares what’s the real score between Vicky and Hayden” Someone told me to ask that question during the question and answer portion, I find the question so showbiz that it kinda made me laugh aloud. I met Atom Henares over lunch the next day and I must say that the guy behind NU 105 is one really nice guy.

I felt over-dressed wearing khaki trosuers and t-shirt. Most delegates were in shorts and showing some skin. Havainnas was the favorite footwear and getting a tan was on the list.

When you go to an event surrounded with young creative talents, you get the same energy. It was a festival that turned out to be alot of fun. The best part, I got to spend a few days out of the office and focus on meeting young (and not so young) creative talents, eat, swim and sleep.

What a festival!
