It was on January 14, 2011 when we saw the sign that says FOR RENT. Immediately a call was made and a meeting was arranged with the landlord, and the next thing we knew, contracts were prepared and signed, and by January 21, 2011, it was official that K I S H will have a new 456.61 sq m new space. Immediately, planning was initiated and within 3 days, working drawings were done. Costing and other preparations were in full swing and by February 17, 2011 construction commenced. Immediately, internal meetings were held and people were given assignments, and punch lists were created to make sure nothing will be missed out.
A major move and renovation like this will for sure not be stress-free, so it was important that everyone involved would deliver what is expected of them. Over 14 suppliers were engaged and a team of 9 were on top of coordinating all the logistics. Not to mention that K I S H is currently working on Anvaya Cove, Greenbelt 5 lounge, Hampton Gardens and 4 other projects. The renovation was 75% done by March 18 so the back office was the first to move out from the old space.
The set-up of the store was supposed to commence March 14, but construction was behind schedule which left only 2 days for the set-up before the soft opening of the store on March 21. New items were brought out of the storage and new deliveries of furniture from all over started to arrive. The new collection of Vito Selma fresh from CebuNext arrived the day before the set-up. You can just imagine the stress but things seemed to be running really smooth on the first day of set-up.
The next day was a different story. Everyone was a little tired, and new problems showed up such as missing wall outlets for lamps, and yes, there was no ladder tall enough for the high ceiling which is about 8 meters high. The creative direction of the store was free flowing since K I S H is known to defy rules when it comes to decorating, yet some areas came out well-defined such as the traditional European-style classics and the mid-century pieces.
When the store was almost done, one piece couldn’t find a space to fit in. It has been moved from one spot to another. It’s an old 1920’s Maranao boat from the south of the Philippines. But then I came up with a bright idea to hang it and make it look like it’s sailing – and it worked. It also carried some of the most beautiful almost fresh looking flowers in town.
On its 10th year, we give you the new K I S H. It is the only store in the country that can inspire every homemaker. We invite you to visit and be our guest.
